Art Tells A Community Story

I was so delighted to visit the Lancaster Amtrak Station recently to see the “Creativity Is” project, a community collaboration led by PCA&D’s Center for Creative Exploration and the City of Lancaster Office of Public Art. The station has become a space where art tells a story about our community. Running through November 14, 2024, this exhibit showcases the community art of over 300 individuals, each contributing to a community narrative that reflects what Lancaster’s got going on.

In partnership with The Candy Factory, we played a part in this project through a Creative Release evening edition. Participants came together to explore creativity on 6x6 canvas panels provided by PCA&D CE. These panels now weave into a larger community story, highlighting the diverse voices and experiences that define Lancaster.

Thanks to the efforts of PCA&D and the City of Lancaster Office of Public Art, the Lancaster Amtrak Station has been transformed into a gallery that not only displays these artworks but also engages travelers and visitors with Lancaster’s vibrant community narrative.

This project is a powerful reminder of how community art can bring people together, fostering unity and shared expression. As we look forward to the closing event in November at PCA&D, where artists will collect their work and celebrate this collaborative achievement, I’m reminded of the importance of creative expression in telling our collective story.

If you’re traveling over the next few months or plan to be in the area, make sure to check out the exhibit, share your experience, and become part of Lancaster’s ongoing community narrative of creativity and connection.
