Illustrated Life Tips

Illustrated Life Tips is a creative series that shares eye-opening ideas and explores ways to make life better, all through visual storytelling.

Welcome To The First Installment of Illustrated Life Tips

If you know me, you know I’m a bit of a personal growth junkie. I’m always diving into books, podcasts, and talks that explore human potential and how to raise consciousness. But with so much information out there, it can be overwhelming to take it all in. That’s where ILT comes in.

Through this series, I’m mining the most potent nuggets from insightful conversations and polishing them into shiny gems just for you! By using live illustration, these videos make the information easily digestible and memorable.

Elizabeth Gilbert and Your Elusive Creative Genius

Life Tip > Make some art and think like an ancient person.

For the first video in the Illustrated Life Tips series, I’m sharing some key points from Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED Talk on creativity. I always like listenign to what Elizabeth Gilbert has to say, and she wrote one of my favorite books on creativity called Big Magic.

In her talk, Gilbert challenges the modern notion that artists are the sole source of their genius, instead suggesting that creativity is a collaboration with external, divine forces. She argues that the pressure of being seen as the sole genius has been overwhelming for artists over the last 500 years and offers a refreshing perspective on how we can rethink the creative process.

And here’s the thing: if you keep creating every day and genius doesn’t make a visit, your work will still improve anyway. So it’s sort of an artist win-win, and that’s a little life tip for you: Make some art and think like an ancient person.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—feel free to drop a comment below. Let me know of any great podcasts, articles, TED Talks, or books that you’ve come across lately and maybe I’ll turn it into an ILT video.

Stay tuned for more Illustrated Life Tips as I continue to drop some knowledge. Until then, I’ll be out there mining those mind-blowing nuggets for you.
