ONLINE / IN-PERSON WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION
Creative expression is more about getting something down than thinking something up but our days are busy and flooded with information coming at us left and right. How are we supposed to hear what is inside of us wanting to get out? This workshop creates a space for you to listen to your creative voice inside through watercolor painting. You’ll learn methods to slow down and pay attention to the medium so that it can help guide your experience. When we get intentional and quiet with a brush in hand, little by little we can start to hear that voice. Eventually, we learn how to listen to it without judgment.
This workshop is not like most classes out there on watercolor. We are painting for self-care, to develop a meaningful relationship with the medium itself, and to understand the fundamentals of color theory. I like to keep the class size small to foster connections between you and me as well as with other participants. Community is a huge part of a sustainable, nourishing art practice.
IN THIS COURSE YOU WILL
Learn to center the mind and foster a state of present-moment awareness.
Experiment with painting for meditation.
Create a space to start developing your own unique visual language.
Explore the concept of impermanence in your artwork.
Learn to trust in the process and allow for artistic flow.
Develop ways to learn more about yourself through what comes out on the paper.
Discuss the value of a deep creative connection.
Understand the basics of color theory
Practice various blending and mixing techniques to get the hue you are looking for.
Avoid unwanted muddy colors by understanding watercolor's unique properties.
Share creative space with others.
We will start our time together with introductions and intention setting. From there, we will discuss ways that watercolor painting can access our innermost creative selves and the importance of self-compassion in our practice. Instruction will begin with a few demos on meditative watercolor techniques and color mixing fundamentals.
There will some independent painting time. This is a chance for you to practice techniques and let the brush and the paint lead you. You will be encouraged to work slowly and avoid “checking-out.” During this time, I will be available for support and additional instruction as needed.
When our painting time is up, we will gather together again and share our painting experiences. This can be helpful to process and digest your own experience as well as learn from others. Often, we will find that others articulate things in a way that resonates deeply with our own process.
This class is held simultaneously online and in-person. Choose how you want to participate below.
