¡Ey!Studio Madrid!

I'm excited to share that in a few days, I will be spending focused studio time in Madrid through the Ey!Studio Air Residency! This residency is for artists, researchers, and curators like me who don't live in Madrid but want to dive into a personal project connected to this vibrant city.

Carabanchel, Madrid

The residency lasts two weeks and during my stay, in addition to workspace and accommodations, there will be an exhibition at the end of my stay. I will be spending time in Toledo, a city with a renowned Jewish Quarter.

In the fall, I'll be giving a talk in Lancaster to showcase the work created during my residency. Here is a bit about the focus of my work while I’m there.

Fronterras Project: An Exploration of Borders Through the Lens of the Convivencia

Borders exist at every level from atomic to intergalactic. Some are clearly defined by composition or geography, others are imposed. During my time in Madrid, through time in my studio and experiences with people and place, I will explore the multifaceted nature of borders, both visible and invisible. This investigation into the Golden Age of Sephardim and their interactions with Muslim communities will invite contemplation on contemporary issues of division and unity.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Congregation Shaarai Shomayim and the Jewish Community Alliance of Lancaster for their generous contributions, which have made this residency possible. Your support means the world to me and has enabled this incredible opportunity.

I can't wait to share this journey and my new creations with all of you! Follow along here to see photos and updates while I’m there.
